Always address the letter to the donor of the scholarship.
This information may appear on the award letter.
If not, find the donor’s information through the scholarship’s office.
Another place to track down the donor's name would be the appropriate department of the college awarding the scholarship.
Sending a thank you letter for a scholarship encourages the donor’s continued support. The donor wants to know where his or her money is going and appreciates hearing from you. Be genuine in your thanks and tell the donor something about yourself.
What is your major? How will this money help you? What are your career goals? Remember to mention the full name of the scholarship as it is stated on your award.
As with any thank you, send your letter as soon as possible after receiving your award. Type or write it legibly, sign it, and always check for spelling or grammar errors.

Ypsilanti, MI 48197
Dear Mr. Burke:
I am very happy to receive the 2012 Burke Industries Scholarship award. This letter is in appreciation for the generosity your family has shown, not only to me, but also to all the EMU students your Scholarship has supported over the years.
I will be starting my junior year at Eastern next fall, pursuing a degree in Language and World Business. Your award will allow me to concentrate more fully on my studies as I continue; I plan to travel to India next spring on a work-study program. After graduation, I hope to utilize my language skills within a global corporation.
Thank you again for your generous support.
Sincerely,
July 22, 2012
Ms. Rendon-Martin

Dear Ms. Rendon-Martin:
As this year’s recipient of the El Charro Mexicano Restaurante Culinary Arts Scholarship, I want to express my gratitude to your family for establishing this award benefiting Macomb Community College students.
I have worked in restaurants all through high school and during my first year in the Culinary Arts Program here at Macomb. With your scholarship, I will be able to complete my associate degree this year. With this degree, I plan to go on and earn a bachelor’s degree at the Art Institute of Michigan. My dream is to open a restaurant in my hometown of Macomb.
Thanks again for your generosity in supporting me as I pursue my dream.
Sincerely,
