Sending a scholarship thank you letter to the donor who awarded you a scholarship
is imperative.
Doing so communicates your sincere gratitude for the donor’s generosity, and reflects very positively on you as the scholarship recipient.
When
writing a scholarship thank you letter,
remember to include a few details about yourself.
Donors often like to know something about the students they are helping, and how their financial assistance is contributing to their growth and development.
Share a bit about your personal life.
Finally, be sure to include your personal address and phone number in the opening of your letter. Also, check it carefully for spelling and grammatical errors.
It’s a good idea to have a trusted third party to read your letter. He or she may catch an error that you didn’t, and save you a ton of embarrassment.
We’ve provided a couple of samples below to give you a few ideas.
Dear Scholarship
Donor,
Ever since I was a small child, I have dreamed of attending law school. Since being recently named a recipient of the __________________________ Scholarship, my dream is finally becoming a reality.
I am glad to have the opportunity to thank you personally for your generosity. Without donors like you, many students would be unable to pursue the career of their dreams.
My future plans include pursuing a career in criminal law. I not only have a passion for the law, but also a vision to help make my community a safer place to live.
Once again, I offer my sincerest thanks for your generous support.
Sincerely,

My first semester as a freshman at ________________ College/University has been both challenging and exciting. It seems that academically, I am off to a great start, having made the dean’s list for the term.
My plans at this stage are to complete a major in early elementary education. ______________________ College/University is noted around the country for its stellar teacher education program, and I am fortunate to have been accepted.
Working as a latchkey program tutor during my high school career, I enjoyed tutoring young children in math and reading comprehension. I hope to teach elementary school here in Tucson, AZ after I graduate.
